As a director, you need to be able to translate music into images and scenes and create the right mood.
Task:
Listen to the piece of music ‘Rondo alla Turca’ by Mozart. 1. while listening to the music, write down your thoughts, feelings and associations about the piece of music (M1).

Directors guide the actors, singers and dancers and give instructions on how they should move on stage. This includes movement sequences, gestures and choreography that help to convey the plot and mood to the audience.
Task:
Once you have agreed on at least 3 pictures in the group, you present them scenically as still images. Let the piece of music ‘Rondo alla Turca’ and the pictures inspire you.
Addition:
Once you have created all three still images, organise them in a sequence and think about suitable transitions.
What is a still image?
A still image depicts a situation in which everyone in the group relates to each other through their postures, positions or reclining postures - just like in a photo. They do not speak or move. This allows concepts, feelings, situations and relationship structures to be visualised.
Tip
If it is difficult to develop still images, the following exercise can be used as preparation. The game is called ‘I am a tree’ and everyone stands in a circle. One person goes into the centre, assumes a pose and says who or what they represent (e.g. raises their arms and says: ‘I am a tree’).A second person joins in, completes the picture and also says what they represent (e.g. ‘I am a bird’).A third person completes the picture. When the picture is finished, the first person leaves the stage and takes one of the other people with them. The remaining person repeats their sentence, which is the basis for a new picture.

Performance

Task:
At the end of the rehearsals, a director presents the scenes to the audience in a performance. You now show your still images to the class one after the other and play the ‘Rondo alla Turca’. Reflection is an important part of a director's work. In rehearsals and after performances, we often talk about what worked well and what can be improved. Give yourselves feedback on how your still images went and what could be done better next time.
