Activity 1
Recap the rhythmic notations with the class, using the words learned in lesson 3 - first concert, horse and carriage, Mozart and shooting star. Ask children to clap the words in rhythm and write down the corresponding notation (rhythmic code and/or note value).
Then, introduce two or three new rhythms from the Rhythm-Bingo game. Clap the rhythms and let the students guess what the notation might be. You can write the correct rhythmic codes and/or note values on the board.
Tip
At the same time you clap the rhythms, say them out loud using "taa" (for the long sounds) and "ti" (for the short sounds).
Activity 2
M6: Rhythm-bingo (hand out to each pupil)
Teacher:
"Now let's get ready for the rhythm-bingo game. Choose 9 rhythm cards, cut them out and stick them in your preferred order on the rhythm-bingo table."
Give children time to prepare their rhythm-bingo table.
Teacher:
"When you are done, cut out the table and add it to your flip book behind the rhythmic sentences from lesson 5."
Activity 3
Teacher:
"I’m going to clap one rhythm at a time. Listen carefully and see if you can find it on your rhythm-bingo table. If you find the correct rhythm on your table, colour or circle it. If you don’t find it on your table, wait until I clap the next rhythm. When the rhythms you have coloured or circled form an entire line or diagonal, shout "bingo". I will then come and check that you have recognised all the rhythms correctly. Whoever gets ‘bingo’ first wins."
During the game, write down each rhythm played (rhythmic codes and/or note values) on the board.

If you want to you can extend the game (for example until 5 pupils get "bingo").
