M1 Printout

Teacher:

"Today we want to express the feelings of joy, sadness and anger together. To do this, we can use different instruments, but also our voices and our bodies."

The class works together to think of ways in which the three feelings could be expressed through sound. For one feeling, several sounds could be created by different children playing together. At the end of the brainstorming, three groups are formed. Each group is allocated one feeling.

Optional: the class can be split into 3 groups first, and each group can reflect on how their allocated feeling could be expressed through sound.

Activity 3

Play as an orchestra
At the cinema
15 min.
Instruments

Open the link to the class game.

Teacher:

"It's now time to compose using the emotion sounds we've created in our groups. I will pick one student to come to the front and arrange the three emotion cards in their preferred order. Once it's ready, I will press the play button. When you see your group emotion being played on the screen, start playing the sounds that reprensent this feeling. Only play when your emotion is showing on the screen!"

Then another child can come to the front and compose.

If there's still time...

... you can repeat activity 2 using other emotions to be represented through sound.

Skills learned in this lesson:

Students...

...learn to recognise and express their feelingsby setting their emotion clock.
... learn to represent emotions through sounds and to interpret them musically.
... experience how different sounds can express different emotions.
