M1: Sounds Grid (hand one out to each pupil)
Teacher:
“We’re going to go outside on a soundwalk. As you walk around, try to be very quiet and listen carefully. The aim of the walk is to discover as many sounds from your surroundings as possible. Use your sound grid to mark the sounds you hear and indicate whether they are 1) high or low 2) loud or quiet 3) pleasant or unpleasant. If you hear sounds that aren't already listed on your sound grid, you can add them on there."
Before going on the soundwalk, give students a specific example.
Activity 2
Teacher:
“What sounds did you find on your soundwalk? Did you feel they were high or low, loud or quiet, pleasant or unpleasant?”
